No, this isn't going to be anything particularly spectacular. This is where I will write about . . . gaming.

This week, I decided I would try to concentrate on Civilization 4: Colonization.  As I had mentioned, I had purchased Civ 4 a few years ago, but I never got any of the expansion packs.  Just recently, they released "The Complete Edition", which had all the expansions AND Colonization.  The price was great, so this wasn't a particularly difficult decision!

I had only played a little of the original Colonization, so this is turning out to be a pretty new experience for me.  I'm still in the "I'm messing around and seeing what happens" phase, but I think I might seriously "start playing" soon.  This game doesn't have an actual "Tutorial Campaign", but if you select an option it will pop up tutorial text as you play.  Still, the way this game handles workers, resource production, and trade are different enough from Civilization that I found myself scratching my head more than a few times.

So far, I have one complaint.  It seems as though there is little to no difference between factions.  Maybe that will appear in later levels, but for right now it doesn't appear to matter if you play the Dutch or the British or the Spanish.

To be honest OP, I wasn't too fond of Colonization. It got boring quick and very repetitive. Obviously this is just my opinion and therefore only counts as much as an individual si willing to count it, but there it is.

I clocked about 20-30 hours into the game and then stopped.

Pros: Decent graphics, decent economy system.

Cons: Gets very repetitive managing your people and shipping stuff from Europe. Not much content. "Feels" like a Civ mod, not an actual full fledge game.

However, I am a HUGE Civilization fan, and absolutely adore that series. However, you should out Sid Meiers Alpha Centuari. By FAR one of the most AMAZING 4X strategy games I have ever played (Gal Civ 2 being my other favorite), even to this day. Although I have Civ 4 and all the expansions, I still find Alpha Centuari to be the better game despite it's dated graphics. Please give it a shot and tell me what you think!

Colonization was priced as an expansion (although it is standalone).  I found it 'quite' addictive and fun but not 'that' addictive and fun.  Its a perfectly reasonable remake of a classic strategy game IMO.  Not a patch on real Civ 4 and GalCiv though.

At first I thought it was neat, but after about 30 hours or so, it just got repetitive, in my opinion of course.
