No, this isn't going to be anything particularly spectacular. This is where I will write about . . . gaming.

I don't know what it is about Sins of a Solar Empire.  I dabble in the game, fire up a random map and mess around for a bit.  Then, I save it and say "I'll get back to that game later."  The next time, I start again.  I have yet to have actually finished a game of Sins.  Maybe it's that these random maps take so long.  I'm trying again: let's see if I can make myself push through small random map.  I'm about 2 1/2 hours into it, and I'm now at the point where I will have to attack the pirate base.  I've never gotten past that point in a Sins game.

Today, I got my hands on Popcap's latest game, Plants vs. Zombies.  I wonder about the big meeting in the conference room, where they came up with this premise.  I imagine them starting with the "vs. Zombies" part of the title, and brainstorming about what would go against the zombies.  Here's a hint to the next game developer in this situation: ninjas!  For goodness sake, ninjas!

Anyway, for those wondering, this is a tower defense type of game.  Zombies are trying to get to your home.  You fight them off by planting special killer plants.  Does it really get any creepier?  I played through the first level, which consisted of ten scenarios, and now I'm midway in the second level.  One thing I like is that this game mixes up the action a bit.  Most of the scenarios are standard tower defense, but now and then they'll throw something different at you (like "bowling for zombies").

The big question is if Plants vs. Zombies will wind up being my latest excuse for not finishing a Sins game.  Could be!  Could be!

Sins is a fun game, but it can require a time commitment. I'd advise you not to play any Galactic Civilzations games if Sins can't keep your attention for more than 3 hours. I've been playing the same "normal" sized map with 5 AI's for close to 8 hours and most of the AI's are still around (I'm trying to go for a peaceful victory condition).

I've never played Plants vs. Zombies. Popcap has somewhat of a reputation for making addictive games, but I've never been able to bring myself to purchase any of their titles.

Keep at it, you owe yourself to complete at least one game of Sins. You bought the game afterall...

Ninjas can get infected.
